The first memorials at Old Trafford were unveils on 25 February 1960.Along the tunnel, you'll find plaques that feature the Busby Babes (a group of Manchester United players who progressed from the club's youth team into the first team under the management of the Matt Busby). Eight of the players died in the Munich Air Disaster in February 1958.

I finally got the chance to visit the world's famous stadium, Old Trafford but sadly i didn't manage to go for the Museum & Stadium Tour.Saving that for my next trip to Manchester insyaallah.. :)

Cupcake Obsession...

My obsession on cupcakes started when I got the Hummingbird Bakery Cupcakes and Muffins recipe book.I began to try out recipes starting with chocolate cupcakes, followed by red velvet and recently vanilla cupcakes.
It's not gonna stop there though.There are still recipes that i'm dying to try out such as black bottom cupcakes and strawberry cheese cupcakes.Yumm yumm...What can I say..I have a sweet tooth...

I've actually written a poem entitled "Cupcake - A symbol of love" that I would like to share with all of you.I also have pictures of the vanilla cupcakes that I did last night. Enjoy!

Sweet dream I had last night

As I walk into a Cupcake Wonderland

A world full of wonderful delights

Scrumptious, colourful and grand

Cupcakes and Fairy cakes

They are delicious and to die for

One little taste is all it takes

Leaving you drooling and craving for more

Oh adorable cupcakes

Such a lovely treat

Instead of buying I'll just make

And together we will eat

Chocolate, red velvet and vanilla

Homemade cupcakes of irresistible flavours

Colourful treat topped with creamy topping

Leaving crumbs as everyone devours

Red Velvet Cupcake Craze

Have you tried the stunning red velvet cupcakes? Oh boy they are to die for!
First time trying this wonderful cupcake was when I visited the Hummingbird Bakery in Portobello Road Market, London. I've heard about the red velvet craze for quite a while but never really got the chance to taste the cupcakes until recently. After taking the first bite, I knew I had to learn to make this delightful dessert myself.

The Red Velvet cupcake got its name because of its distinctive rich red colour that originally comes from the reaction of unprocessed cocoa powder with the acid in buttermilk.But often now, we just use the processed cocoa powder we can find on shelves at the the supermarket.So now the red colour would come from the red food colouring added to the batter.Now that you've known a bit about the red velvet cupcakes, lets get to business!

I got a red velvet cupcake recipe that I'd like to share with all of you.The recipe is from The Hummingbird Bakery Cupcakes and Muffins, Recipe text ©Tarek Malouf & The Hummingbird Bakers. It is a wonderful book packed with 28 recipes for cupcakes, muffins and frostings.An awesome book for a sweet tooth like me! You should also get one! ;)

The actual recipe makes 12 cupcakes but I doubled it cuz they tasted so gooooooodd that I kept on coming for more.I think y'all would do the same thing.

Ingredients and Steps
For the Red Velvet cupcakes (Makes 24)

120g/ 8 tablespoons of unsalted butter, at room temperature
300g/1 1/2 cups caster sugar
2 eggs
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 tablespoons red food colouring(liquid) I used red food colouring powder.So 2 1/2 teaspoons was enough.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
240ml/1 cup of buttermilk
300g of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of baking soda
3 teaspoons of white vinegar

Beat butter and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy.
Change to high speed and slowly add the eggs.Beat until well mixed.
In another bowl, mix together cocoa powder, red food colouring and vanilla extract. Mix to make a thick paste.
Add the paste to the butter mixture and mix well until everything is evenly combined.

Using low speed on the mixer, beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk until everything is well incorporated.Turn the mixer up to high speed and mix until you get a smooth, even mixture.
Turn back to slow speed.Add baking soda and white vinegar.
Lastly, put the mixer on high speed and beat for a couple of minutes.

Pour the mixture into the paper case about 2/3 full and bake in a preheated oven (170 Celcius) for 20- 25 minutes.You can check by inserting a skewer in the centre.It should come out clean.
After removing the cupcakes from the oven, leave them to cool slightly.Then remove the cupcakes from the pan to let them cool completely on a wire rack.

For the Cream Cheese Frosting ( Enough for 24 cupcakes)

600g/4 cups of icing sugar, sifted
100g/6 tablespoons of unsalted butter
250g of cream cheese, cold

Beat the icing sugar and butter on medium speed until the mixture combines and is well-mixed.
Add cream cheese all at once and beat until well mixed.Turn the mixer to a medium-high speed/
Beat the frosting until it is light and fluffy for about 5 minutes.
DO NOT OVERBEAT! As this will make the frosting to become runny.
When the cupcakes are cold, spoon the cream cheese frosting on top and decorate as you wish.I sprinkled the top with the red crumbs from the cupcakes

Wallla...Now you have made yourself a delicious stunning red velvet cupcakes!

I said less is more..Fizz said more is better! Hee..lagi banyak la red crumbs kan..

I'll never get enough of London. I've been there thrice and still looking forward to my next trip to this city of many dreams. There are a lot of great places, tourist attractions, shopping spots in London.You name it! You got it! Walking in London, seeing what it has to offer is such a great experience.You'll get to see lovely historical buildings, get amazed by modern structures and experience the heaven for shopaholics.

Even though my main objective to go to London was to experience Boxing Day, I didn't miss the opportunity to go sightseeing and did a bit of window shopping too.I had a wonderful time exploring London.Seriously a place like no other.

Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan in London

London is a Food Paradise.I dunno about you guys, but i personally think that London is a heaven for food lovers.It is one of the places in Europe that caters to every culinary desire, and furthermore providing a wide range of Halal food.You can easily find halal sign hung on the window of the restaurants.There are a lot of places in London where you can find halal food but the most famous spot would be Bayswater.Halal food is everywhere! Rambang mata xtaw mana satu nak pilih.. :)

The one dish that I was really looking forward to indulge in London was Lamb Chop! You can hardly find halal lamp chop in Germany...sad huh? Dah la lamp chop tu my all-time favourite food.. howoe..

Ok enough with that, lets get to the best part of this post! Pictures!!!

Fish & Chips (Winter Wonderland)

Supermarket (Kings Cross)

It's hard to find a nice and affordable restaurant on Christmas Day.So we ended up buying snacks and sandwiches from a supermarket near Kings Cross Station. You can see that all the fresh buns and donuts were finished.Thankfully the sandwiches sold here are all halal.Wee...yum yum Onion Bhaji and Mango Chutney Pita!

The Hummingbird Bakery (Portobello Road Market)

The Hummingbird Bakery landed in Portobello Road in early 2004,selling various types of delicious desserts that'll make you go crazy for more.Cupcakes, cakes, pies, brownies, whoopie pies you name it! They got it! Check out their website, Hummingbirdbakery.

Makan & Classic Cafe (Portobello Road Market)

Makan and Classic Cafe are both Malaysian based restaurants that are opened next to each other in Portobello Road Market.They are ran and owned by a Malaysian couple, the husband operates Makan and the wife takes care of the Classic Cafe. A very nice place to enjoy Malaysian gastronomic delight. Great food, nice staff, great value for money..What more could you ask for?

Halal Fast Food in London
You can find halal fast food chain in London.You've gotta check first for the halal sign though.Not all the restaurants there are halal.So yeah...but the fact that i can eat Italian BMT here is awesome!!!

I had a wonderful time in London, indulging the great food that I couldn't find here in Germany.Oh I can't wait to go to London again to explore more variety of food and write another post on Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan London! :p

Skiing in Winterberg!

Skiing - Have you tried it out?
I used to watch this type of winter sport on the TV and will be amazed by how these sport people have the courage to go down the hill or high mountains using skis.It's exciting but nerve-wrecking as well to see the skiers moving very fast downhill, skiing, racing, and carving.Oh and I always wonder how it would be like to try it on my own.

My friends, Adam and Syahmi planned a winter sport event on Facebook. 7 people showed interest in joining the exciting event. Those people are Adam, Syahmi, Ibrahim, Anisah, Fizz, Darwin and Nabil.So yesterday I got the chance to go skiing for the first time in Winterberg, Germany.Terrified I was but I dared myself to try on something new that I might not get the chance to do again next time.Oh and I wasn't the only one beginner.Anisah, Fizz and Darwin have never tried skiing as well.So mari gelabah beramai-ramai ye.. :p

Before proceeding to other pictures, let me enlighten you all with a bit of information on Skiliftkarussell Winterberg. (Source from Wikipedia)

It is located near the town of Winterberg in Hochsauerland region in NRW.
It is a popular tourist attraction, not only attracting the locals but also international skiers mostly from the Netherlands.
The highest points are Kahler Asten (842 m above sea level), Bremberg (809 m), Kappe (776 m), Poppenberg (746 m) and Herrloh (733 m).
The ski resort offers 21 ski lifts (8 chairlifts, 11 T-bar-lifts and 2 toboggan lifts)
The resort has snow-making machines to ensure snow safety. More snow means more fun!

There's no more rental for ski apparel so you need to dress up properly. I got a new jacket, a new pair of ski pants, a new snow hat and a new pair of gloves... :)

There are a lot of ways for you to enjoy the winter sport at Winterberg.You can choose to play the whole day, half day or even following the points system.Each lift has its own points.We bought 25 points for 9 Euro and we managed to get on about 7 to 9 lifts.

Anisah and I..We're partners in crime..We had so much fun as beginners, falling down, helping each other getting up again, falling together, hitting the skis of the other person..haha..it was fun!

Adam has already getting the hang of skiing...Dah pro turun laju je kan...tinggal lah I ngan Anisah terkedek2 turun bukit.. :p

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

I remember I wrote a post early last year entitled "Wonderful ways to spend a winter weekend".Well here's one of the best ways to spend your winter weekend. Instead of just lazing around at home, you should enjoy the winter season by doing something fun and exciting! Winter Wonderland should be on your top list!

Sadly ,Winter Wonderland has officially closed for this winter season. It was winter break in the UK when the Winter Wonderland took place.That was from 18th Nov to 3rd January.So make sure you guys plan a trip to London next year during this period of time to enjoy the magical and sensational Winter Wonderland.Click here to read more about the Winter Wonderland.

I was lucky cuz I was there during the Christmas break.I got to enjoy the last few days of the Winter Wonderland.It was fun even though i didn't get to experience the wonderful events that took place earlier.So many activities and attractions that you don't know where to start.

Do you guys know about the world's famous street market in London called Portobello Market?
No? Now you will!

Portobello Road, where the Portobello Market is located goes straight through the heart of Notting Hill.You must have heard of the movie entitled Notting Hill which uses this place as the setting for the film. Along this road, you will find beautiful, colourful and unique buildings, houses and shops that give a welcoming feeling to the visitors.

Portobello street market is opened daily but the main market day for antiques is Saturday. I was lucky cuz I went there with my friends on a Saturday. So we get to enjoy the antiques market and also the crowded Portobello road.

Portobello Road Market is divided into three main parts which allows the market to cater a wider range of visitors.

The first part is the Antiques Market.You'll find wonderful antiques and vintage items such as jewellery, bags and classic cameras.After that, you'll come across the best section of this market which is FOOD! Macam-macam ada! You get to indulge not only the local food but also food from all around the world.Global treats such as Paella, Crepes, Falafel and even Malaysian delicacies.The last section of the Portobello market brings you to a world of fashion, vintage and modern.You'll find vintage jackets, sweaters, second hand clothing and also the up-to-date clothing. You'll just have to come here to experience it yourself!

Don't you just love M&M's? These dragée-like colourful button-shaped candies that come with the world famous slogan “M&M’s melt in your mouth, not in your hand.”

Guess what? There's an M&M's World awaiting to be explored by all of you in London.The M&M's World carries a slogan "So much more than chocolate". I've gotta tell you..It is sooo right..The moment you enter this M&M's World, you'll be amazed by the variety of merchandises you can find here. Rambang mata ok!!!

Hello Goodbye UK!

I just got home from a week of adventurous journey in the UK. I was so excited to say Hello to the UK on 23rd of Dec. Lots of great activities have been planned in advanced by me and my friends. The main objective of the trip would be shopping on Boxing Day la kan... :p

In this post, I'm gonna write about the journey from Germany to the UK before proceeding to write articles on the activities that my friends and I have done throughout the wonderful trip.So sit back, relax and enjoy!

Düsseldorf Weeze to London Stansted

We arrived at Düsseldorf Weeze airport at about 11pm on 22nd of Dec.The flight was on 23rd of dec at 6.45am. So we had to wait nearly 8 hours at the airport...Sigh...

When in Europe, Döner is the best choice!

Why would I say that?
Döner, a Turkish dish made of roasted meat cooked on a vertical spit is the ultimate fast food dish in Middle East and Europe. You can easily find Döner Kebab restaurants all over the continent.The great thing about eating Döner is that it's very filling yet very delicious.Oh and it's cheap too.It's kinda hard to look for Halal food when you're in Europe...So the best thing to do is to go for a mouth-watering, juicy meat-filling Döner Kebab.. :)

A bit of enlightening on Döner Kebab.Döner kebab is also known as gyro, shawarma and al pastor in different countries.Kira cam adik-beradik la dorunk ni. “Döner” means ‘turning itself’.When you add the word “kebab” (grilled meat in Turkish), means that “Döner kebab” simply means “turning grilled meat.” (source from wikipedia)

In Krefeld, the place where im staying, you can find 7 Döner Kebab restaurants positioned next to each other..So can you imagine the temptation of eating Döner Kebab at my place..Pilih je mana satu nak, macam2 ada... :p

A wonderful day out in Hanover!

Remember my previous post? That was a sneak peek of the adventure that we had in Hanover last weekend.Lots of interesting places to visit but so little time..Sigh...However we managed to visit Maschsee, Neues Rathaus(New Town Hall), Weihnachtsmarkt Hannover (Christmas Market Hanover) and last but not least Balzac Coffee, a great hangout spot in the city.

There are a lot of other great places, historical and modern attractions that we would like to visit but couldn't due to the time constrain..Insyaallah next time sapa2 nak mai sini kita pi jalan ramai2 k? :p

Neues Rathaus (New Town Hall)
The first thing that came up to my mind when I saw this building was "Wow cantiknye castle ni".
Oh boy how I was wrong. It looks like a castle but it's actually a town hall.

New Town Hall in Hanover, Germany, is a city hall and was opened on July 20, 1913, after having been under construction for 12 years. It is a magnificent, castle-like building of the era of William II in eclectic style at the southern edge of the inner city (source from Wikipedia)

Another great event organised by MGSS was held in Hannover last weekend. Hannover Open 2011 was opened to all Malaysians studying in Europe especially Germany and the best part of this event is that the accommodation, food and travelling costs are fully sponsored by JPA. Yeay!!! Kata orang, kecil tapak tangan, nyiru kami tadahkan..entah sesuai ke tidak peribahasa ni.. ;p

The main activities during Hannover Open 2011are futsal tournament for guys and bowling tournament for girls.The highlight of the day would be the Dinner Gathering with JPA officers and other Malaysians that came to enliven the event.Macam kitorunk ni yang datang untuk support NRW team and alang2 tu dapat makan makanan sedap2.. :p

Dinner Gathering at Sam Nok

Sam Nok is actually not a restaurant but a furniture shop.MGSS committee asked the help from Indonesian students in Hannover to find a place and to do the catering for that night.They found a nice spot at Sam Nok and the dinner was splendid.

From an empty space to a beautifully decorated dinner place...wow...

Mouth-watering food...Satay as appetizer, main dish Nasi Lemak with sambal petai udang, rendang daging and ayam berempah.Minuman free flow ye.Mintak je nak jus ke, cola ke, sprite ke, coffee ke dll.Ketayap and kuih Bom(onde-onde) menjadi dessert for that night.

Wunderlicher Weihnachtsmarkt - Dortmund

Mari kawan-kawan dengar ini cerita,

Kami semua mahu pergi Dortmund sekarang juga,

Ada pokok krismas terbesar katanya,

Tentu ia hebat x terkira! :p

Humma2.That's an impromptu that I created before we left to catch the train to Dortmund. Actually we wanted to go to the Christmas Market in Dortmund on Sunday but we changed the plan to Friday night.Fizz made the first call to let me know about this....and the rest is history.We were in a group of 12 : Fizz, Darwin, Hakim, Peja, Laili, Fuad, Tini, Ainul, Lan, Adam, Ibrahim and I. Selalu kalau plan awal susah skit nak jadi...plan tetibe je terus jadi kan.. :P

Weihnachtsmarkt means Christmas Market.I've explained this term in my post last year entitled "Meet the Mugologist" .I've collected mugs from various Christmas Markets last year but every year they would change the designs.Can't wait to collect more of these wonderful mugs!!!

What is so special about the Christmas Market in Dortmund?

The Christmas market -

The biggest Christmas Market in Germany with over 300 stalls.

The Christmas tree -

An enormous Christmas tree standing about 45 metres tall, made out of 1700 individual fir trees and with is illumiated by about 48,000 lights.
It is the largest Christmas tree in Germany.
The Christmas three is graced by a 4-metre high angel on the top

The Programme -

Everyday the visitors will get to enjoy colourful entertainment programmes on the Alter Markt stage and at the Christmas Village such Mr Punch, Fairy-tale and magic shows.

Let's not be too formal...

Isn't that a catchy title? I thought the title would be perfect for my post today.

We met our new JPA consulate officer, En. Khairul Nizam bin Jamalus yesterday.He didn't really say "Let's not be too formal" but the way he presented himself said it all.

Earlier that evening, Encik Nizam, Fuad, Fizz, Darwin and I went to play bowling together.We had so much fun!! Encik Nizam, who can swing the bowling ball pretty well won the second game.Fuad won the first match and I won the last one..Oh btw I came a bit late to the bowling alley as i had to do my lab practical earlier..Boo me!!!

That night, we went out again for a dinner gathering in Düsseldorf. A total of 10 people were present at the famous Tandoori Restaurant.I brought along the lemon cheesecake I've made the night earlier. Hee...

Guess what? Encik Nizam is in his late 20s. He doesn't look his age, right? I think I look older than him with my janggut and misai and muka tua.. :p

We chatted around at that restaurant until the place closed.We got on the train at about 20 minutes before 12.Dalam train, kitorunk sempat buat lawak, discussion, debate semua lah...oh memeris...I like this kind of approach introduced by Encik Nizam and his team.Meeting the students personally is the best way to get in touch with them and their problems.I believe that this is a great development and should be continue forever and ever.. :)

A Cake Chef-d'oeuvre...

I won't call it my cake masterpiece..It is our cake masterpiece..."The Krefelders"..We really worked hand in hand in producing this work of art. Apa yang penting? Kerjasama!!!

It all started with a phone call from Abg Nazri and Kak Nadia .Their son's 8th birthday was just around the corner.So they decided to have a race car birthday party theme.They asked me a favour of making the birthday cake.I was a bit reluctant at first as I've never dared myself to decorate a cake and what more to have a themed cake..After being persuaded by them, i said YES! Well there's always first time for everything, right? X cuba xtaw kan.. :)

So this is how the cake should look like or sort of..

Oh before I go on with the steps taken in making the masterpiece cake, I would like to share the best Buttercream Icing and Chocolate Ganache recipe I've tasted so far.I got this recipes from wilton.com and allrecipes.com.

Buttercream Icing

Ingredients:

1 cup of solid vegetable shortening or butter or half portion of both.

Better use shortening if you want the icing to have stiff consistency and easy to decorate on the cake.

1 teaspoon of clear vanilla extract. I used butter-vanilla clear extract in my recipe.

4 cups of confectioners' sugar. That's the original recipe.You can use less sugar if you find it too sweet.

2 tablespoons milk

Add a bit of green food colouring or cocoa powder to get the icing colour that you want.

Steps to make Buttercream Icing:

Prepare all the kitchen utensils and the ingredients needed.
Important is to sieve the icing sugar.This is so that the icing you make has a nice texture and not lumpy.

In a large bowl, cream shortening or butter with an electric mixer.

Add vanilla extract to the bowl.
Add sugar gradually, one cup at a time while beating continuously on medium speed.

When all sugar has been well mixed, the icing will appear dry.
Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.

If you want an icing with stiff consistency, you can straight away use the icing you've made.
To thin the icing for spreading, add 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup or milk.
Add food colouring of cocoa powder to get you desire icing colour.

Chocolate Ganache
Ingredients to make chocolate ganache:

200g of heavy cream or whipping cream

250g of cooking chocolate

70g of butter or shortening

Steps to make the Chocolate Ganache:

Heat up heavy cream until it comes to a boil.

Remove the pan from the heat and pour in chopped chocolate bars and butter.Stir until you get a nice glazing chocolate topping.

Tadaaaa

Enough with the topping, lets get to real business. Are you ready?

First attempt - I did a chocolate cake with a chocolate buttercream icing.We thought the icing was too sweet and the texture was not like what I expected..So we changed recipes and did a second attempt.

Second Attempt - We did two cakes to test the topping.Added chopped hazelnuts on one cake and icing on the other cake. Haha bentuk apa pon xtaw..macam new type of Pokemon je I tengok..

The Real Thang!!!

First of all, I would like to say thank you to the Krefelders who have helped me to fulfill the favour.

The Krefelders are Peja, Hakim, Kak Laili, Nani, Fizz, Darwin and ME!

We prepared the tray for the cake by placing baking paper on top of it.

Baked cakes in two different size springforms ( 9 and 10 inches)

We cut the top of the cakes to level them and then turned them upside down

I lined the springforms with baking paper before baking the cake so that the cake will be easier to remove and turn over.This is how it looks like after the baking papers are removed.

A small semicircular notch was cut from the smaller cake.

Then you'll get this..

Position the cake together like this.You can see the number 8 shape already.

We made a lot of buttercream icing..I think about 5 cups of it.Then we divided them into three bowls.One is the natural colour of the icing.The second one we added cocoa powder and the third one we added green food colouring.

Cover the cakes with brown icing that acts as the ground for the race track

Choose the right tip for the cake decoration

We chose the star tip to make the grass effect. Chomeyl kan...

We piped a white icing border for the race track and make circular grass effect at the middle of the cake.

We filled up the side of the cake with more grass effect...ponat woh...gigih woh.. howoe..

Okay 60% dah siap...weeee

We used the chocolate ganache to cover the whole race track.
We piped it out on the cake so that it will not be messy.

Tic Tac!!! We used this to make the broken white lines on the race track. Good idea huh?

75% y'all....Excited!!!

Adding the plastic race cars made it 90% done!

I was so gigih making this flag...siap warna satu2 box kot.. :p

99% done...1% tu sebab blum light up the candles je..
Oh we're so happy...As if like we're on cloud 9!!!

The cake was ready but we needed a box to transfer it on a journey of about one hour from Krefeld to Essen.
Peja and Hakim created a well-designed box to transport the cake.Siap boleh bukak daripada tepi nak ambik cake tu ok..oh siap balut semua...Good job guys!!!

Kak Laili and I did the ribbon decoration.The top of the ribbon went missing along the way.So i had to use the inner side of a chocolate wrapper to cover the top... Humma2

Transporting the cake masterpiece...Semua orang pandang kot..haha..it was a great experience..Macam menatang minyak yang penuh takot cake terbalik kan...

We had quite a number of challenges throughout the process of making this birthday cake.All the efforts that we've put in is rewarded after seeing the joy and happiness in Nafiz's face when we opened the box and revealed his birthday cake...

I have to say that this is a stepping stone for me to create better cakes in the future...

The whole process of making the cake and decorating it according to a theme is really fun and exciting.I enjoyed it a lot and I know the others did too.. :) Oh I'm so proud of us..

When it comes to eating Pavlova and Jam-Filled Butter Cookies, one bite may bring you an ear-to-ear smile, but one bite is never enough. You'll keep on coming for more.. :)

Pavlova requires 4 egg whites. On the other hand, jam-filled butter cookies require 4 egg yolks..oh what a nice combination.So every time I make a pavlova, i would also bake the delicious jam-filled butter cookies.Pavlova needs tender loving care, while the butter cookies is simply a mix of love, fun and everything nice. Humma2.

I got the recipes from my favourite website ever that is allrecipes.com ...Enjoy!!!

Before anything, i have to say this, making a pavlova is really challenging if you don't know how to beat the egg whites properly.I did 4 times and only twice that i got it right.So it's like a 50-50 chance of you successfully getting it right.I'm gonna share a video that'll show you the right manner to beat the egg whites.Click the video below...

Got it? Now let's proceed to the recipe of making a Pavlova...

Pavlova

What do you need?

4 egg whites
(Make sure there's only egg whites, not even speck of egg yolks.This is crucial when beating)

1 cup of caster sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch

A pinch of salt

1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar

1 1/4 cups of heavy cream

1/2 cup of icing sugar

Fruits as topping ( Strawberries, Kiwis, Berries, Grapes and etc)

Making a Pavlova

In a large stainless steel or glass bowl, beat egg whites starting with low speed to high speed until soft peaks form.Add sugars bit by bit while continue to whip.The mixture produced is called meringue.

Mix together cornstarch, lemon juice(or vinegar) and salt into the meringue.
Beat till the whites are stiff and glossy.Don't overbeat as it will turn out lumpy and by that time, "Nasi sudah menjadi bubur". To check if you have beaten the egg whites correctly, turn the bowl upside down and if the meringue doesn't fall down, you have done it right.

Draw a 9-inch circle on a baking paper and place that on a baking tray.
Spread the meringue to fit the circle, with a thickness of about 1/3 inch.

Bake the meringue in a preheated oven (150 degrees celcius) for 1 hour.
Then turn off the oven but leave the meringue in the oven to cool slightly for about 30 minutes.You don't want to open the oven as this will make the meringue collapse and becomes flat.

The meringue should be hard on the outside and gooey on the inside.It has a marshmallow texture on the inner side.
Don't worry it's not gonna be pretty.It'll have cracks here and there.But you can cover that with the whipping cream and fruits.. ;p
To make the whipping cream, combine the cream and icing sugar in a large bowl and whip till it becomes thickened.

Spread the whipping cream on top of the meringue.

Decorate with fruits of your choice.

Are you ready for the delicious butter cookies?

Jam-Filled Butter Cookies

Ingredients needed to make the butter cookies

1 1/2 cups of butter

1 cup of caster sugar

4 egg yolks

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons of vanilla essence

3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

1 cup of seedless fruit preserves ( Strawberry jam without seed would be a great choice)

Time to gotong-royong making Butter Cookies!!!

Cream butter together with sugar and egg yolks in a medium bowl.

Mix in vanilla essence and salt

Mix in flour bit by bit until soft dough forms.
It is advisable to refrigerate the dough for about 20 minutes so that it's easier to roll it into balls.
Roll dough into 1 inch balls.

Place the balls with a gap of about 2 inches.
Press the balls and make a hole in the centre using your finger or an instrument.
Fill the holes with the fruit preserves.It is easier if you can squeeze out the fruit preserves into the holes with a piping bag.This will ensure a faster and neater work.

Bake in a preheated oven (190 degrees C) for about 8 to 10 minutes.

Allow the cookies to cool before transferring to another tray.

The cookies will turn out soft and lovely...

Gotong-royong sangat best sebab bila bake apa-apa mesti penuh dengan kasih sayang.. :p

Let's take a walk on a Roller Coaster!

Have you ever thought of walking on a roller coaster track? Nuh uh? Neither do I... :p
However, you can now experience the thrill of walking on a roller coaster track with the existence of a big sculpture in Duisburg called "Tiger & Turtle - Magic Mountain".

Before we go on with the pictures, let me enlighten you all with a lil bit of facts on this interesting sculpture.

It is designed by German artists ( Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth)
Standing more than 45 metres of the ground (85 metres above sea level)
It is made of tin, zinc and steel.These materials symbolize the early industrial uses in this area.
About 120 tons of the materials were used to create this magnificent sculpture.
It is worth about 2 million euro.
Total of steps are 249 which make a total length of 220 metres.
At night, LED lights would illuminate the handrails.

Maybe this is the reason why it is called Tiger & Turtle - Magic Mountain. The designers said "The roller coaster stands for acceleration and high speed of a tiger but the visitor has to explore it step by step like a turtle". Oh and it is located on a so called Magic Mountain.. :)

I went to see this wonderful roller coaster sculpture two times with my friends.The first time I went was in the evening with Hakim, Fizz, Lan and Darwin.We didn't take many photos as it was dark and faces couldn't be seen clearly..So I decided to go again with Darwin and Rumitha in the afternoon so that we could take better and clearer photos. :)

It's amazing how time flies and now my blog is already 3 years old...Dah boleh menari menyanyi dah blog ni. :p .As a birthday gift, I'm giving this blog a new header.Dah tiga tahun i pakai header sama...It's time to change to a new one, don't ya think?

So many great things happened in my life in the past three years and all the interesting and exciting events have been captured and written in this blog.I'm so grateful that I have this medium to share my ups and downs with all of you.Hope you guys are inspired or motivated with the bla bla bla i've written here.. :Þ

It's my tradition to go down the memory lane every time my blog's birthday is coming up.Viewing the old posts and reading each posts makes me wonder how this blog has evolved and gotten better from time to time.I've widen my blog's horizon by ranging the articles from personal experiences, tips on travelling and fashion, and the latest would be sharing awesome recipes that will make everyone drool..All I know is that this wide range of posts I offer has attracted more people into reading this blog and keeping them coming for more..The number of page views have increased leaps and bounds throughout the year and the best/surprise part would be when this blog entered InTrend Magazine this month. :)

Not just an ordinary Banana Cake...

Oh i miss the olden days when I would shout "Uncle!!! Uncle!!!" at the guy riding motorcycle selling breads,cakes and various types of tit bits in the evening.He is well known as "Mamak Jual Roti". :)

I think I started to love eating banana cake after buying a packet of banana cake from him...I remember how the packaging looked like but I can't remember its name..Maybe it's no longer available at the supermarket..oh rindoee..

I thought of satisfying my craving on banana cake, so i searched for the recipe on my favourite website, allrecipes.com. Guess what? I found a great recipe that creates an unorthodox banana cake..Why I said it's unorthodox? Read on!!!

Banana...na..na..na..come on...na na na come on, come on, come on.. :p

Banana Cake with buttercream frosting..

The ingredients needed for the banana cake:

3/4 cup of butter

2 1/8 cups white sugar

3 eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla essence

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups buttermilk..If you can't find buttermilk, you can use 1 1/2 cups milk with 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice added to it.

2 teaspoons lemon juice

1 1/2 cups mashed bananas

The ingredients needed for the buttercream frosting :

1/2 cup of butter, softened

1 package (250g) cream cheese at room temp

3 1/2 cups icing sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Lets get bananalicious!

Steps needed to make the banana cake...

Mix mashed bananas with lemon juice in a small bowl and set it aside.

In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda and salt. Put aside.

In a large bowl, cream together butter with sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in eggs one at a time and then stir in the vanilla essence.
Beat in the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk.
Stir in the banana mixture

Prepare a 10 inches springform.Grease and flour the springform.
Pour the banana cake mixture into the prepared pan.

Bake in a preheated oven (135 degrees C) for about 1 hour, or you can check using a toothpick to see if the center of the cake is fully baked.
Directly place the cake into freezer for about 45 mins after taking it out from the oven.Weird huh? But you should definitely do this to get a moist texture of the cake..Don't worry the cake won't freeze.. :p

Buttercream frosting

Cream butter and cheese until smooth.

Beat in vanilla essence
Add in icing sugar and beat until everything is smooth and well mixed.

Spread the frosting on the cake....and Wallllaahhh...

Diwali, Festival of Lights 2011

Krefeld is once again the venue for Diwali Celebration by MIG (Malaysian Indian in Germany). Darwin and I love gatherings and having the opportunity to share this Festival of Lights celebration at our place is an honour.Oh not forgetting the mouth-watering Indian food that we get to indulge during the whole celebration...Yummeayhhh...

17 of us : Darwin, Nabil, Rumitha, Hakim, Peja, Thila, Rintha, Chocka, Shasi, Fizz, Riyaz, Abiman, Nani, Ashiq, Prahlad, Sofi and Deebhan. Meriah kan... :)

We celebrated Rumitha's belated birthday on the Diwali celebration's eve...That night there was a ragging session between the seniors and the juniors...It was fun having some of them dancing and singing...hee ragging la konon..

I've never been featured in other magazines except for Kuntum..Do you guys remember Kuntum? I got featured in the magazine when i was in standard 3 wearing a prefect uniform with a songkok on my head and a wallet chain attached to my trousers...oh memeries...:p

Oh another time my face appeared in a magazine was in Klue but that was just as an unknown person in the background... Haha...

Yesterday, I got mentioned in a tweet from one of my followers, ashieniesha. She wrote " @NabilAizat's blog appear on InTrend mag issue Nov =) " I replied " Ye ker? Cam x caya je.. " So I asked her to send a twitpic of the article. The other pics are taken by my dad..Thanx Ayah!

It's a short article in a blog compilation entitled "Nota Sang Petualang". In case you guys are wondering what Petualang means, here are some of the definitions I've found online.
