Amagaddd it's Rome! I've never been to Rome so I was pretty excited to visit this so called "Eternal City". Rome has a lot of ancient historical sites and magnificent tourist attractions that are simply breathtaking. I've always adored beautiful architecture and details on old buildings so Rome is definitely an exciting place to cater my interest.
Just like in Paris, I got everything planned out, where to go, what to do and how the day should start off.
Tips :
To use the public transport in Rome, but a day ticket (B.I.G) which is 4€. It covers the whole Rome city even to Vatican City.
Buy a combination ticket of The Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill in advance through online. If you buy it at the site, it would take you ages to reach the counter. But if you really have to buy it there, then go to the Palatine Hill entrance gate, shortest queue.
One day tour around Rome
We really had to do a lot of walking on this tour because we wanted to cover as much as possible in a day. It was exhausting but really worth it. The transportation in Rome is quite bad due to the infrastructure of the city. So make sure you wear comfortable shoes cuz there'll be a lot of walking..seriously..
Anyways, let's take a look at the pictures that Nadira and I took along our journey exploring the city of Rome.
Via del Fori Imperiali
Our walking tour started along Via del Fori Imperiali. We took a metro until Colosseo and started walking upwards towards Mercato Traiano.
Caesar's Forum
Mercato Traiano
This military monument is located at the end of Via del Fori Imperiali. Walk pass it and slightly go to the left towards Piazza del Campidoglio.
Piazza del Campidoglio
From the Piazza walk straight through an arch next to the statue above to go to Via Monte Tarpeo.
From here you can get a beautiful view of the Roman's Forum.
Tarpeian Rock
From Tarpeian Rock on Via Monte Tarpeo you can get the whole view of Roman Forum. Really breathtaking!
Supposedly from here you can get into the Roman's Forum. But the gate wasn't opened on that day so we had to go around the hill to get to the entrance of the Palatine Hill which was on the other side of the hill....Pergh ni paling sakit hati..
Palatine Hill
If you get the combination ticket, you can go to Roman's Forum and Colosseum from the Palatine Hill. Just explore this place and follow the signs.
Roman's Forum
At Roman's Forum, you'll visit Temple of Saturn, The Vestal Virgins house, Arch of Titus, Arch of Septimius Severus and Antonimus and Faustina's temple. Don't miss them!
From the Roman's Forum, you'll exit to get to the entrance of the Colosseum. You'll see a lot of people lining up to buy tickets. Walk straight pass them and enter directly with the ticket that you've purchased online.
Colosseum
Perghhh memang teruja..terimbas zaman gladiator plak... :)
After visiting Colosseum, we made our way to Spanish Steps at Piazza di Spagna.
Spanish Steps
It was Easter Sunday, so the place was crowded with people. This is actually a nice place to hangout and cuci mata if the weather is nice and the place is not that crowded.
From the Spanish Steps we walked towards Fontana di Trevi.
Piazza Mignanelli
We walked passed through Piazza Mignanelli to get to the Trevi Fountain.
Have you ever wondered how much money gets thrown into this fountain every year?
According to the City of Rome, nearly €700,000 worth of coins gets tossed in each year. The money however goes to charity.. :)
From Trevi Fountain, we headed towards the Pantheon and walk passed Church of Saint Ignatius.
Pantheon
It was getting dark and we were already feeling hungry. So we made our way to Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona is a great place to have dinner because it is a site of two Baroque fountains, enormous Sant'Agnese in Agore church and has a variety of restaurants to chose from.
Piazza Navona
So that was about it. The day tour of the Rome city. It was really tiring but seriously a must do when you're in Rome. But the most important thing to do when you're in Italy is to get a taste of their ice-cream. Seriously their ice-cream is to die for.
Njam njam!
Rindunyeeee....
Till the next post...
Mach's gut and tschüss!!!!
